perez is one of the new faces in the french scene and has been so since 2013 when he released a first ep (perez, dirty/kompakt) and played concerts which caught the attention of the press. perez claims to have a taste for singular electronic pop and the music he produces certainly is. his records collection has albums by christophe and bashung standing next to pulp and suicide ones, among productions by the dfa and kompakt labels. for his second album cavernes (to be released in february 2018 on his own record label etoile distante), perez has collaborated with berlin producer and friend strip steve (boys noize, clone royal oak, waxtefacts). on this one he delivers a particular sound combining a story-telling singing sometimes verging on the fantastic with electronic club music. but perez does not only write songs. after being artist-in-residency at the palais de tokyo (paris), he made a sound installation in 2014 for the villa noailles in hyeres, france. he also composed for the scenographies of contemporary artists dominique gonzalez foerster, saâdane afif or ange leccia. in 2016 he was awarded by the drac and was given the opportunity to compose basing his inspiration on pieces of the collection of the regional fund of contemporary art.

finnish visual artist and filmmaker hannu karjalainen s music draws inspiration from ambient, drone, modern classical and dream pop. his first album worms in my piano was released in 2007 on osaka records and the second album, hintergarten in 2009 on simon scott s kesh recordings. a handful of dust is a desert, his third album – and the first under his full given name - arrives after a prolonged break.

formed of laura lee on bass, mark speer on guitar, and donald “dj” johnson on drums, khruangbin’s sounds are rooted in the deepest waters of world music infused with classic soul, dub and psychedelia. their 2015 debut album ‘the universe smiles upon you’ was heavily influenced by 60’s and 70’s thai cassettes the band listened to on their long car journeys to rehearsal in the texan countryside. ‘con todo el mundo’ takes inspiration not just from south east asia but similarly underdiscovered funk and soul of the mediterranean and the middle east, particularly iran.

following our first release with opal, which aimed at the dance and the bodies, we wanted with this second ep to reach to people’s mind. as a geneva-based techno label, it was fundamental to work with our local hero: opuswerk. he’s already been working outside of the country with artists like francois x and labels such as arts, semantica or dement3d. it was time we involved him in our project. through this ep, opuswerk clearly shows what he knows and does best. much like his dj sets, he connects dots and layers in unexpected ways, like a rhizome connecting different multiplicities. inspiration for the original tracks came from designing systems of independent yet connected sounds, where events are triggered, un-triggered and alter other events, each behaving on their own. as one of those elements, the artist acts as a guide, directing them from one place to the next acting as and with the machines. the -mot d’ordre- is about becoming one of the machines, blending techniques with vibes and catching them like ever escaping dreams. the result is two uniquely sounding spaces, either filled with raw energy like on extensum or with subtle and serene ever-evolving bleeps on spatium. those two extremes are fitting to how we want present the multiple dimensions of our artists works to the world. the same logic went into choosing the remixers, with whom opuswerk had a human connection with. inland and antigone need no introductions, having both established their sound on labels like countercharge or token. each brought their own re-interpretations of the original tracks bringing them closer to the dancefloors.

hobor is part of many groups and formations himself, such as songs for pneumonia or cointel allstars and the event-series fiktion+masse. his solo project is mainly known for extended dj-sets on various ambient-floors in leipzig and his live-sets - which could be described as cautious investigations into micro-sounds - are mainly based on his work with modular synthesizers. his debut-album on ph17 is a minimalistic, conceptual work that focuses on sound as much as on the way electronic music usually plays. all tracks consist of almost independent layers of sound that behave like improvising musicians. they seem to play together but by focusing on one of them you soon realise they’re actually stoically sticking to there own rhythm and repetition and as the tracks play on these layers of sound start to form ever different constellations. no wonder hobor says he took inspiration from improvising bands like the necks. his album is as fascinating and hypnotizing as one of their live-jams. “constellations is released on 50 limited tapes.

the next release from sol asylum was uniquely crafted between julie marghilano and illustrator olga olkaosadzi&#324,,,ska. in this collaborative effort each artist found inspiration in each others work to create and finalize their vision of this release. conjuring beats from the mpc paired with modulated violin and synthesis, julie added a modern twist to the music that originally inspired her to create electronic music. expect the unexpected with the ep titled mercury jasmine and open up your imagination to what flowers would sound like on distant planets.

from the redwood forests of big sur and the industrial warehouses of downtown los angeles comes pfeiffer, a label dedicated to quality and a diverse musical output. pfeiffer follows in the footsteps of labels such as svek and kompakt, known for releasing a wide range of techno and house with a common thread of unique and unpredictable energy. looking to bring this type of eclectic curation into the modern era, pfeiffer draws inspiration from the raw simplicity and effortless magnetism of its namesake location on the central coast of california. february 9th marks the release of pfeiffers first musical offering. a-side big tent sets the tone with raw, minimal percussion and acid tinged melodies. b-side twist brings a healthy dose of chicago and detroit influence to a track that feels colder than house, but warmer than techno. the first of many releases to come, pfe001 marks the tip of the iceberg for pfeiffer, a label which will continue to reveal itself over time.

syncrophone is pleased to welcome shuffles to the family! shuffless is a technohouse-duo hailing from the forests of middle-finland. their musical inspiration comes from the sounds of legendary techno and house cities, but in production they mix it with a finnish twist. they make their music with a selection of hardware gear, and record the tracks live in the night to get the feeling right.here is one of the two ep scheduled for the early 2018.

next up on francis harriss newly-founded record label kingdoms comes something very special from brooklyn-based film composer, songwriter, producer and performer leah lazonick. movimenti della luna doro (movements of the moon of gold translated from italian) is a four-track ep from one of the most exciting musicians and performers around - a beautiful quartet of contemporary classical music with a twist. lazonick is something of a polymath, having composed and conducted orchestral and electronic scores for short films and commercials as well as being a classically-trained pianist. lazonick is also a connoisseur of analog synths and vintage drum machines, and will release a second ep focussing on these passions during the course of 2018. here we are treated to three luscious works for piano and string quartet, written for a one-off performance at studio off interarts, an art gallery in montreal. the piece was performed in a forest-like immersive environment, and was originally called in a forest (a piece in three movements). lazonick performed the piano parts along with a string quartet she had assembled for the performance/recording. lazonick explains: as opposed to most of the other songs/compositions i have written, i have no concrete sentimental story behind writing this piece. the motivation, inspiration and overall idea behind composing it was of a more technical nature, attempting to relay the music in my head at its purest form, without any compromises, by primarily making use of melodic and harmonic dissonances whilst still keeping the content captivating, musical and continuous.

vozduh (air) marks the first in a series of eps by nocow for figure, showcasing his emerging signature-style of electronica-tinged techno. drawing inspiration from the sheer endless winters of st. petersburg, his series builds on classic idm tropes, imbuing them with a noticably russian and deeply personal sensitivity. as each part of the trilogy is represented by an element, the tracks on vozduh are vaporous by nature: from the crackling ambiance of opener bouis to the weightless vocals on stoic forgiven, as well as a surprisingly introspec-tive take on ghetto-house or the wafting melodies closing out the records b-side - all forms seem to be in con-stant shift, casting a dense yet permeable body of sound. with two more releases on the way, which will be exploring the themes of voda (water) and zemlya (earth) within this artists singular spectrum, the outlook (which also includes a full- volume edition) on this approaching season is anything but gloomy.

interchain are eugene gorbunov and andrew lee, an electronic duo from moscow that finds equal inspiration in techno culture, punk music and russian industrial landscapes. plenum is an album composed of a series of sketches based on eugene s and andrew s childhood memories about perestroika in the ussr.

a modular synthesiser and an urge to find interesting tones, textures and timbres... ekke s second lp klangfarbenmodular is due to bevreleased by detroit underground . it is electronic music with compositions that deal with abstract textures, glitchy beats, nostalgic synth melodies, and sound design. like the title of the album suggests, one of the main interests for ekke has been finding different interesting tone-colours, textures and timbres. second very important inspiration for ekke while composing this material was his instrument – modular synthesiser. he has been studying free improvisation and composition on that instrument for years and the instrument has become like a good friend and music teacher for him. the album was composed and recorded during 2015-2017. most of the material has been recorded as studio jam sessions. all the pieces have then gone through many reincarnations. although most of the material comes from machines, there is a track where all the sounds are field recordings registered in tallinn, estonia, which is a current home for ekke .

having been steadily absorbing the flowery humidity in steamy spa towns of central florida since his debut outing chillax, floridian $1 house music purveyor blair sound design aka kyle lyon emerges into the lobster forest with all 16-bit brass and duvet filters blazing. taking inspiration from late 80’s and early 90’s bargain bin finds, as well as a lifetime spent strapped to game boy classic kirby’s dream land, “console humidity” finds lyon on classically chipper yet introspective form, carving a path well trodden but that is unmistakeable his own.

the self-titled four track ep consists of ideas, sketches and field recordings collected over the years, which were then forged into actual songs that reflect on existence and its abysses. borderline girlfriend draws inspiration from everyday psychological downward spirals and transforms them into raw techno.

2nd output of the beau mot plage collective. here on this two tracker, they have chosen to put the light on stellae, a young producer from south of france who has been dealing with his machines for nearly a decade. the two tracks on this ep showcase the last sound inspiration of this talented young man. selected by the beau mot plage crew, these two tracks are vivid pictures of a journey that stretches through the night, lavirra could be peak time of it and kfort both the warming up and the afterhour.

samuel van dijk is an electronic music producer, sound designer and media artist from the netherlands releasing deep electronic music as vc-118a, mohlao, and multicast dynamics. drawing inspiration from technology, nature, film, and fiction, his productions and live sets embody a dynamic musical framework. since the dutchman surfaced as mohlao for labels like meanwhile, field and other heights at the turn of the decade, van dijk?s music has found a firm position, the ethereal electro vc-118a project, deep ambient techno as mohlao, and subterranean ambient as multicast dynamics.

louie vega re-ignites the disco classic “dance (disco heat)” by sylvester grammy awarding winning producer & 5 time grammy nominated louie vega continues to send dance floors into a peak hour frenzy with his remixes of disco classics on nervous records. the inspiration to delve into masters from this era began when he started remixing masters from the sam records catalogue, which is owned by nervous records, and with whom louie has a long history going back to nervous early 90’s origins. louie is that unique producer who has had success in multiple genres of music including house, r&b, & freestyle and he has brought that talent to help re-ignite new york disco classics like vicky d’s -this beat is mine- and convertion’s -let’s do it- featuring leroy burgess, as well as charting topping disco hits from john davis & the monster orchestra -bourgie bourgie- & -up jumped the devil-. this time, louie put his focus on a track outside of the sam records catalogue, and one that was an international disco hit that also crossed over to becoming a 1978 pop hit, namely sylvester / dance (disco heat). using elements from the 1978 version and combining them with his own original musical and percussion contributions, along with new vocal performances from renowned singer cindy mizelle, louie has refashioned and reignited this 39 year-old production into a 2018 club anthem.

joran van pol is back on minus with edge, a fantastic four track ep that is his first on the label since 2013. in the years since, the amsterdam based artist has set up his own fade label and has continued to evolve his cinematic techno sound. previously, van pol has also released on labels like rejected, sci+tec and ideal audio, and has the support of all the big techno players who often reach for his tunes in their sets. as a dj he is just as in demand, with headline slots everywhere from space ibiza to time warp all behind him. having recently set up a new studio, he is still coming on strong with fresh inspiration and ever more essential grooves. ‘illos opens things with seven spooky minutes of icy techno. rolling rubbery drums pump away below, and the details up top make for an evocative soundscape with distant industrial sounds, groaning bass and razor sharp hi hats all filling your mind with imagery. next comes title track ‘edge, another brilliant sonic landscape with tense chords repeating over ticking percussion. its a track that builds tension throughout, and keeps you looking over your shoulder into the eerie blackness. the perfectly high pressure ‘return is one that locks you in and never lets up, with warped synths snaking above traintrack like drums and hits. a dark, rumbling bassline and the sounds of pistons releasing air all add to the intensity of this brainmelting bit of futuristic techno. last but not least, ‘frostbite is then the most spacious and spooky offering of the lot. it has freaky alien sound designs scattered around the track with supple kicks driving the whole thing forwards. its an absorbing cut that hurries along and takes you for a thrilling ride. these are four more inventive techno tracks from one of the contemporary scenes brightest stars.

7th storey projects is pleased to welcome back the myor massiv head honcho for his 3rd release on our label. earlier this year, coco bryce travelled to tokyo and osaka for a small series of gigs. thoroughly impressed by his experiences there, upon returning home, he immediately took to crafting a slew of jungle and hip hop tracks, heavily influenced by everything he d seen, heard, felt and tasted in the land of the rising sun. the ep kicks off with its title track, ayakashi. dark, fierce and mysterious like the mythical creatures it was named after, it builds up slowly, utilizing a combination of chopped up japanese percussion, haunting flutes and hot pants breaks, before switching to full on amen assault mode halfway through the tune. shinjuku is one of tokyos most well known wards, and also the place where coco found the records from which the samples were sourced to construct this number: a turntablism beat/scratch album, and a compilation of traditional work songs, this particular one originating from the gold mines of the island of hokkaido. on the b1 track, kaguya, he takes a more gentle approach: sweet, yet melancholic, like the miyazaki movie of the same name. the ep is rounded off with hotaru, which borrows from an entirely different source of inspiration, namely dj krush s abstract take on boom bap hip hop. shards of mid-90s mo wax are blended with anime samples, making for a solid two and a half minutes of golden era-esque head nodding.

décalé. is a fresh new label based in biarritz ( france ). décalé. focuses on reissuing worldwide -french speaking- music from the 80 s / 90 s. travelling into multiple genres : synth-pop , west indies , new beat , occitan folk , afrobeat , ... and taking taste in weird and obscure records. for it s first release , décalé. started with one of the most awaited french zouk ( in the ear of the beholder ) albums : nar chiveol – -esperance music wir-. originally released in 1988 on a private press in guadeloupe and the same year on west indies records in paris . -apocalypse now ho- is now a well known banger for diggers and décalé. wanted to show the whole album that is really surprising by crossing west indies genres. from disco west indies with -séance de nuit- and -spleen maria- , weird rumba funk with -fo nou pédalé- to early biguine inspiration with -separation kc-. to close this album , - apocalypse now - and - swingue zouk la - sounds like a revolution didn t yet happen in carraibean music.

new cool collective s fifteenth album electric monkey sessions refers to the sound studio in amsterdam where the recordings were made. they have drawn inspiration from senegalese orchestra baobab, as well as psychedelic cumbia, cape town, italian cinema and many major jazz heroes. electric monkey sessions also features two unique tracks recorded at a beach-side studio in dakar with local musicians the band met on one of their many international adventures.

at its core, organn is a record about love and duality. taking inspiration from isidore-lucien ducasse’s poem les chants de maldoror, the record is antagonistic yet often drops its temper to reveal blistered beauty within the chaos. such are the contradictory elements within the compositions themselves: widescreen claustrophobia, glimmering sludge, piercing vhs ambience. visuals come courtesy of french mixed-media artist, thomas hauser. hauser’s imagery similarly evokes retrograde surrealism and further insists on a narrative at work here, with obscured characters playing out alongside mantric piano, filmic vox and hyperspeed jungle.
